Here at An Akin Photo- we believe that everyone deserves beautiful photos that capture who they truly are, far beyond the cell phone selfies we rely on.
My journey into photography began as a way to showcase the handmade clothing I created for my children. As a seamstress, fabric companies would send me materials in exchange for photos of their fabrics sewn into unique pieces. That was the spark that led me to explore photography as a way to tell stories—yours, mine, and everyone in between.
I offer photography services in exchange for trade because I believe that higher-quality photos should be accessible to all. My work is rooted in inclusivity and respect. Discrimination of any kind- including racism, homophobia, bigotry, or hate in any form- has no place here. If you share the values of kindness, equality, and respect, you’ll feel right at home with me.

I believe in the value of bartering, and I'm open to trading photography sessions for goods or services.
Below, you'll find examples of what a session is typically worth as well as a few ideas for what you could trade in exchange for photos.

An Akin Photo is based out of Owosso Michigan! I am happy to travel, but actual cost of said travel must be fully covered by client.
I have taken virtual newborn photography courses, along with being a mom of 4 myself. I also have First Aid and CPR training that comes with being a foster parent, and I'm a retired CPST. But my current newborn sessions are all done at your home with minimal props brought with me, and most hands on will be done by a parent!
I use the website PixieSet to virtually send you photos. I send a link (and if you'd like it password protected, a randomly generated pin) containing all your images and all you have to do is give your email and download! The link will expire after a month, but you are also welcome to give/send a thumb drive for me to put them on as well.
Turn around time is pending what sessions I have in que and what is going on at home. If we're at the height of Dance Recital season, my computer will be off more than on while I run around hoping I don't lose a headpiece! There are 4 kids here, 3 of which are neurodivergent along with myself, though. So turn around time IS going to be longer than a full time paid with cash photographer. Assume 1-6 weeks, and if you need a rushed turn around, just talk to me beforehand.
If you REALLY want to just pay me, I'll probably argue about it a bit. A tip on top is acceptable to me though! The way my ADHD works is that if I get paid for something I enjoy doing, I get stressed out and stop enjoying it! So a tip would be fine, more than that we'll talk!
There are some things that are near and dear to my heart, and will always get free sessions if I can.
Foster kids and their family's along with adoptions get free sessions- birthday's, newborn, milestones, and reunifications!
I am also a licensed officiant and will provide that for free while your choice of 2nd shooter does the ceremony, and for LGBTQIA+ ceremony's the actual photoshoot is at a discount as well!
As a retired CPST, car seat safety is very important as well. So I offer a free 15 minute session in exchange for either proof you went to a licensed tech for a car seat check, or allowing me to do so.
I also have my yearly Free Mother's Day photoshoot around the last week of April.
We live in a very politically charged country, where we all have our own beliefs. I believe everyone deserves photos, but I don't deserve to have hate spewed at me while I'm providing a service. So if you don't believe the same, we will probably not mesh together in person. BUT as long as you don't say anything to me, we can both fulfil our parts. But as my wedding contract says- I will leave and you will not get your images if you or someone with you is hateful towards me. I will not change who I am or what I think is right to take your photos.
